APS Celebrates Community Victory with Passage of November School Levy

Image of Issue 27 Thank You

Akron Public Schools (APS) is thrilled to announce the successful passage of Issue 27, a pivotal community achievement that will secure vital funding for enhanced educational programs and the construction of a new North High School. APS leaders express profound gratitude to Akron residents, whose strong support has made this milestone possible, reinforcing the district’s steadfast commitment to its students and their futures.

"We are incredibly grateful for the support of Akron’s residents, employees, our unions, community advocates, the Citizens Committee for Akron Public Schools and our Board of Education," said APS Superintendent Michael Robinson. "While continuing to assess our fiscal status and plan for fiscal stability, this victory means we continue with our mission to prepare students for college, careers and life by providing innovative educational experiences through our Blueprint for Excellence."

The Blueprint for Excellence - The Strategic Plan guides the district’s vision, preparing “APS scholars as architects of their future, ready to thrive in an ever-changing world.” The new funding secured through this levy will directly support initiatives under this strategic plan, including improvements in academic resources, expanded safety measures, and strengthened partnerships with families and local organizations.

Board President Diana Autry echoed this appreciation and emphasized the district’s aligned vision with the Akron community. “Thank you to the Akron community, endorsers and volunteers for supporting Issue 27 and our youngest citizens. Your commitment is greatly appreciated and demonstrates that we understand our children are our most valuable resource,” said Board President Autry. “This investment in our collective future demonstrates what we are capable of, together. We remain encouraged by this positive momentum for our schools. Let's build upon it! I also want to extend a special thank-you to the Citizens Committee and Board Member Sykes for their leadership on the levy.”

APS extends special thanks to Dr. Carla Chapman, Adam Motter and Board Member Barbara Sykes, along with countless others whose dedication was instrumental in securing the levy’s success. Their advocacy reflects Akron’s belief in public education as a cornerstone of a vibrant and thriving community.
