The Akron Public Schools (APS) Board of Education has announced the appointment of Ms. Mary Outley as Superintendent, following the departure of Superintendent Dr. Michael Robinson. Dr. Robinson’s departure is effective immediately, the result of a mutually agreed-upon separation agreement with the district.

She brings to her new role a proven record of building strong school communities, fostering academic excellence, and cultivating leadership among students and staff.

Ms. Outley will lead Akron Public Schools by restoring unity, strengthening academic excellence and keeping students at the center of the district's work. She will collaborate with educators, families and community partners to build a more cohesive district, advancing key initiatives already underway and setting a clear course for future success.

“This is an exciting time for Akron Public Schools,” said Carla Jackson, President of the Akron Board of Education. “We are confident in Ms. Outley's leadership, deep understanding of our district and unwavering commitment to our students. Her extensive experience and strong relationships across the district will be invaluable as we move forward.”

"I am committed to working with the Board of Education, educators, families and community partners to strengthen our schools, support every student’s success and build on the progress already underway.”

Akron Public Schools looks forward to continued growth and success under Ms. Outley’s leadership.
