Buchtel AFJROTC Earns Prestigious 2026 Distinguished Unit Award Again!

Akron Public Schools is proud to announce that Buchtel CLC's AFJROTC Unit OH942 has repeated as a Headquarters AFJROTC 2026 Distinguised Unit Award (DUA) recipient!

The DUA is awarded annually to units across the country that go above and beyond the established minimum standards set by HQ AFJROTC. This 100% cadet-led program has proven once again that excellence is a habit at Buchtel

2025-2026 Major Accomplishments Include: 

• STEM Excellence: Awarded a $500 STEM Grant from the AIr and Space Force Association, in partnership with Aerospace Education Platinum Sponsor, Rolls-Royce
• Community First: Exceeded the 10-hour community service minimum by earning 927 total hours averaging an impressive 15.72 hours per cadet
• Drill Champions: Competed in 5 drill competitions (exceeding the required 3) and were named the Overall Champions of the 2026 Pine Richland Highland High School JROTC Drill Meet
• Leadership Development: Blew past the 8-hour leadership minimum by earning 1,768 total Leadership Development Requirement (LDR) hours, averaging 27.0 hours per cadet
• Academic & Personal Discipline: 58% of the cadet corps earned Buchtel Merit/Honor Roll each grading period, with zero record of cadet school discipline actions (including ISS or suspension). 
• National Recognition: 7 cadets earned AFJROTC National Awards from major organizations, including the Air and Space Force Association, Daughters of the American Revolution, Military Officers Association, Sons of the American Revolution, American Veterans, Tuskegee Airmen Inc., and the Air Commando Association

Headquaters AFJROTC will be forwarding a formal congratulatory letter and certifcate of recognition for the school to proudly display.
