City of Akron Summer Lunch Program Sites

Beginning next Monday, June 10, the City of Akron will provide free meals to all eligible youth (18 years of age or younger) and summer day camp program participants who meet the income guidelines for reduced-price meals in the National School Lunch Program. The meals will be prepared by Akron Public Schools and passed out at a variety of community centers and other city locations. The program runs Monday-Friday from June 10-August 2 excluding holidays. Children who are part of households that receive food stamps or benefits under the Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR) or Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) are automatically eligible to receive free meals. “Akron is proud to once again offer the summer food service program for our youth,” said Mayor Malik. “Kids deserve to just be kids and not have to worry about where their next meal is coming from. The summer food service program allows them to do that. I'm grateful to Akron Public Schools and to all of our community center staff for making this program possible.” The meal program is available at the below locations at the listed times. In addition, since the Reservoir Park center is not available this summer, an additional lunch-only site has been added at Wingfoot Church (1690 Hillside Terrace), which is across the street from Reservoir.
