Five Houses, One I PROMISE School
- I Promise
That is the premise of the new House System model that is making great strides at the I PROMISE School. More than an engaging competition, the House System cultivates a strong sense of community and accountability among students and staff. This system groups students into “houses,” creating smaller, close-knit groups within the larger school community. These groups are modeled after the school’s 5 Habits of Promise and promote teamwork, positive behavior, academic growth and leadership, further emphasizing the school’s We are Family philosophy. It helps build a positive culture and climate by providing students with a sense of belonging while also encouraging healthy competition and personal responsibility.
Beyond academics, the House System supports students’ emotional and social development. Through House activities, students collaborate, solve problems together and celebrate achievements. Teachers and staff play a key role in guiding these activities, ensuring students feel supported by mentors and peers.
“The House System at IPS has had an incredible impact on our students’ engagement and motivation this school year,” said I PROMISE School Principal Stephanie Davis. “It has created an amazing environment that encourages them to take ownership over their learning and growth while creating a strong sense of pride in their work and their peers. It has been a gamechanger for us as educators and a real joy to witness our students engage with each other and the entire school community in such a positive way.”
The I PROMISE School offers a holistic educational experience for students that goes beyond academics. Created and facilitated in partnership with the LeBron James Family Foundation, the school provides wrap-around services designed to support students and families including Job & Family Services, legal services, housing assistance, healthcare, a GED program, higher education opportunities, job training and career placement support, all emphasizing emotional well-being alongside academic success. The House System complements this holistic approach by fostering a culture of care, leadership and excellence, ensuring students have the experiences and encouragement they need to thrive.
Superintendent Robinson praised the initiative, stating, “The House System at I PROMISE School is a powerful way to build connections among students. It fosters a sense of belonging, encourages teamwork and helps students develop leadership skills that will serve them well beyond the classroom.”
