Akron Public Schools graduate Jonny Marshall is swimming in the Olympics in Paris. His event, the men’s 100-meter backstroke, begins Sunday, with heats scheduled for 5 a.m. EDT and the semifinals later that day. The finals are the following day at 3:22 p.m. EDT.
Marshall qualified for the Olympics in the same event he dominated for three years at Firestone CLC where he won three consecutive state titles before graduating and moving on to swim for the University of Florida. But, while a Falcon, he set a school-record time of 46.31 seconds last year (his senior year).
We are told his coach at Firestone, Cindy Dial, plans to be in Paris to watch Jonny swim.
