How Scholars Spend Summer at APS
Akron Public Schools has a history of providing enriching summer programs to its scholars. These offerings come in all shapes and sizes for a good, universal fit that gives scholars a variety of activities from which to choose. Most everything is free, and aside from the mandatory summer programs to help them catch up on academics, APS Summer Experience often gives kids a look into activities they may never have explored.
We help our scholars make the most of their summers through various camps and programs throughout the district. This summer, for instance, we are offering 64 camps and programs enjoyed by more than 1,300 kids. We don't really have room to share ALL of what we're offering, but here is a small sampling of what APS scholars are engaging in this summer:
- Creating new art
- Going on cool field trips
- Experimenting in science
- Building robots
- Preparing for high school
- Getting a summer job
- Exploring careers
- Making friends
- And so much more!
Of the 5,000 seats open in the summer of '24, our scholars filled 4,000. Most of those who registered did so for more than one camp.
APS is proud to work with the entire community to provide Summer Experience programs to enrich our scholars' lives while helping keep their minds sharp during the summer, staving off the learning loss that often occurs during long breaks.
