Seniors Celebrate Military Commitments
- Superintendent
On Monday, May 12, Akron Public Schools proudly honored a group of graduating seniors who have officially committed to military service after graduation. These students have completed every requirement and signed their enlistment papers, marking the beginning of their next chapter in service to the country. Families will join school leaders to celebrate this milestone, and the students will be formally recognized by the Akron Board of Education.
This milestone is part of the district’s College and Career Academies of Akron’s “Dream Day” initiative, which helps students identify and prepare for their post-graduation plans. At the end of junior year, students declare their “E”: Enroll in post-secondary education, Enlist in the military, become Employed in a career-starting job or launch an Entrepreneurial venture. Throughout their senior year, they follow a personalized checklist designed to prepare them for success in their chosen path. For this group of seniors, that path has led to a proud and life-changing commitment to military service.
“We are incredibly proud of these students who have chosen to serve,” said Superintendent Mary B. Outley. “Their courage, determination and sense of purpose set an example for all of us; and we’re grateful to their families and our educators who have supported them along the way.”
Akron Public Schools is proud to celebrate the dedication, hard work and character of these seniors — a true reflection of the strength and promise of our students.
