Congratulations to the 2024 peer mediators! On November 13, approximately 60 scholars, 10 from each school (Buchtel, East, Ellet, Firestone, Garfield and North) attended a one-day refresher training at the Sylvester Small Administration Building. Starting on November 14, middle school scholars from Buchtel, East, Hyre, Innes, Jennings, Miller South and NIHF STEM attended four days of consecutive training at the Sylvester Small Administration Building. Approximately 40 middle school scholars were trained. The week of training was facilitated by CRU Institute and included the session below. Staff advisers from each school also attended a half-day training.
The next step is each school will implement a peer mediation program in their buildings to decrease discipline referrals. Each staff adviser will receive materials and have the opportunity to meet with CRU staff virtually to help with implementation. Peer mediation training is funded by a GAR grant and is a direct result of listening to what scholars report is needed to enhance peer-to-peer relationships.
