Akron Public Schools (APS) is proud to announce the upcoming swearing-in ceremony for its newly elected Board of Education members. The event will take place on Monday, January 5, 2026, at Garfield CLC.

The community is cordially invited to witness the induction of newly elected school board members as they begin their terms of service to the district. The formal ceremony will begin promptly at 6:30 PM, with a community reception immediately following.

The ceremony will officially induct three newly elected members and one returning veteran to the board:

  • Rev. Gregory Harrison (Returning Member)
  • Nathan Jarosz (Newly Elected)
  • Karmaya Kelly (Newly Elected)
  • Phil Montgomery (Newly Elected)

These members will join sitting board members Barbara Sykes, Dr. Rene Molenaur, and Summer Hall to complete the seven-member team dedicated to serving the students and families of Akron.

"We believe that a strong school district is built on a foundation of community partnership," said Mary Outley, Superintendent of Akron Public Schools. "By joining us for this swearing-in, residents are not only welcoming our new board leadership but also reaffirming their commitment to our district's future. Your presence signals to our educators and families that we are united in our mission to provide the best possible education for every child in Akron."

The Board of Education serves as the bridge between our schools and the community. Public attendance at this ceremony is more than a formality; it is a vital display of civic engagement and support for the future of Akron’s children. The district looks forward to the community being a part of this moment.
