Akron Public Schools Scholarships

Aiming Higher Scholarship: The Coleman Foundation offers two “Aiming Higher” scholarships up to $5,000.00 each for tuition and educational related expenses to members of the Northeast Ohio refugee communities served by Asian Services in Action, Inc. The scholarships are intended for: (a) graduating high school seniors, or (b) recent graduates wishing to begin or who are currently engaged in higher education studies.

Andrew Lloyd Webber University Scholarship: The American Theatre Wing is committed to fostering a future generation of theatre makers that reflects the diversity and dynamism of America as a whole. Now in their 10th year, the Wing's Andrew Lloyd Webber University Scholarships provide resources and support to rising high school seniors from populations historically underrepresented in the theatre industry who demonstrate exceptional talent and have economic need, lacking financial resources to attend college to study a discipline in theatre. Students can apply for an annual scholarship of $10,000 to study ANY aspect of theatre from stage management to arts administration, design to performance, and more, providing opportunities for all to pursue their dreams of a career in the theatre both on and off the stage. The Wing is dedicated to bridging the gap between talent and opportunity while uplifting scholars through every step of their journey as theatre-makers.

The Ericka D. Weems Memorial Scholarship: was established to honor the memory of Ericka D. Weems who,  passed on November 1, 2020. Ericka was raised in West Akron and was a 2002 graduate of John R. Buchtel High  School. Ericka attended The Ohio State University, earning her Bachelor's in Early Childhood Education. She then  acquired her Master’s degree in Education from Kent State University. Ericka would go on to open her daycare,  Recess Child Development Center in 2012. Ericka loved children and had a fond love for helping the community.  She had a huge heart showcased in her selflessness and willingness to help others. 

Each year up to four scholarships will be awarded to Buchtel High School seniors who will be pursuing higher  education beyond high school. To be considered for the scholarship, applicants must be attending Buchtel High  School, have a 3.0 cumulative GPA, and have a minimum of 10 community service hours. Well-rounded high  school seniors who demonstrate a significant commitment to volunteer service to our community are  encouraged to apply. Awarding the Ericka D. Weems Memorial Scholarship is contingent on several criteria,  including acceptance to and enrollment in a two-year or four-year college and a complete application.  Additionally, applicants must submit a 500-word essay for the prompt provided on the application. Scholarship  recipients are expected to use their resources wisely and uphold a high standard of conduct.

Mularcik Welding Scholarship for Summit County: Applicant must be a high school graduate or individual enrolled in or plan to enroll in a post-secondary vocational training program, college, or university in the United States seeking accreditation, certification, or a degree related to welding.

Robert H. Eckart Memorial Scholarship: The Robert H. Eckart Memorial Scholarship of Summit County was established in honor of Robert Eckart for his extended service to Summit County Farm Bureau and his community. The scholarship assists students who are pursuing degrees related to agriculture or have been active in the Farm Bureau and/or whose parents are Farm Bureau members.
