Akron Zoo
For APS students entering grades K-5 during the 2022-23 school year
Get ready for the upcoming school year with an evening at the zoo! Join us for:
- A FREE backpack and school supplies
- Student performances, DJ and animal encounters
- Health screenings (see below for registration information) and vaccinations through Akron Children’s Hospital
- Information on community resources for APS families, including Essential Experiences, the Akron Zoo, the Akron-Summit County Public Library and more!
You will receive a flyer in the mail that provides admission to the zoo for the student and two guests. Tickets for additional guests are $3. Children under the age of two are free. Parking is free for those not riding METRO or APS buses.
Health Screenings and Vaccinations
Akron Children’s Hospital will be offering immunizations, COVID-19 vaccinations and health screenings for kindergarten-through-fifth-grade students at Backpack Adventure.
Call 330.543.7242 to schedule your student’s health screening during this event. Immunizations and vaccinations do not require an appointment.
Transportation
Transportation is available on METRO buses. Use the Backpack Adventure flyer you received in the mail as your ticket. Line buses only. Not valid on METRO SCAT or NCX routes.
Transportation on APS buses is available to families in the North cluster ONLY. Your Backpack Adventure flyer serves as your ticket as well.

Buses return from the Zoo every 30 minutes. The last bus leaves the Zoo at 9 p.m.
