Family Liaisons in Schools
APS Family & Community Engagement Opportunities
APS's Family Engagement builds school and community-based networks to engage families to support children's learning. We believe in creating safe, welcoming learning environments at school and at home. As partners, we can better develop and strengthen school connections with families. We are also committed to working with community partners to assist families and create opportunities for student success.
Family Academies
Family Academies are school- and community-based programs designed to bring families together to share information and ideas that help us build a strong relationship between our families, our school and our community to improve our child’s education.

Family Resource Centers
Family Resource Centers are designed to help families and students address non-academic challenges, which may impact a student’s ability to learn. Their convenient locations inside or near APS buildings provide families, students and community members with connections to health and social services, community resources, referrals and more.
Family Resource Center sites include:
Family Liaisons
Family liaisons are APS employees who help families actively participate in their children’s education by building relationships with school personnel. Liaisons empower families to stay informed about their children’s educational pathways and work with the school to accommodate unique needs, learn about policies, and more.
Liaison Initiatives
- Family Academies — Family Academies are school-based programs designed to bring families together to:
- Learn about local resources
- Get information about school programs, academic initiatives, and education requirements
- Build relationships with school staff
- Collaborate and interact with other parents and caregivers
- Attendance Outreach — Family liaisons work with school staff and families to decrease chronic absence for students at risk for failure due to absence as defined by House Bill 410. See the Every Student, Every Day Community Toolkit to learn how you can help reduce chronic absence!
