Office of the Superintendent

After a great deal of soul searching and thoughtfulImage of APS Superintendent David W. James consideration, I have decided to take myself out of the running for the Columbus City Schools superintendent position.

Not long after I announced to our Board and the community that I was being considered for the position, our school board urged me to reconsider. Many of our wonderful families, employees, stakeholders, business partners and my senior staff graciously told me they value my leadership. They feel Akron Public Schools is in good hands and would remain so if l were to stay.

I treasure those sentiments.

Our exciting partnerships with Kent State University and Akron Children's Hospital in our new and evolving College & Career Academies of Akron represent a transformative vision for our future. I am delighted they have chosen to invest in and support this vision and look forward to announcing other new partners in this project soon.

All of this discussion has reminded me of the work we've done and, more importantly, the work we have yet to do. We have laid the groundwork for some extraordinary experiences for our students.

To sum it up, I don't want to miss out on seeing and being part of what has become a total community effort to ensure spectacular futures for our children.

I want to thank the people at the Columbus schools for their kind consideration, but my heart and I will remain in Akron.
