The School Board of Akron Public Schools has finalized the district’s first agreement with a partner in its new College & Career Academies of Akron. The board approved an official cooperative agreement between the district and Akron Children’s Hospital to define terms in the partnership to create the Akron Children’s Hospital Academy of Health and Human Services at North High School.

Children’s Hospital has made a quarter-of-a-million-dollar commitment toward the development of the curriculum and programming over the next five years. The hospital’s leadership has also promised to provide another $100,000 to $150,000 per year for additional services to the program.

APS continues seeking partners for other academies as they are developed.

As is the norm with the first meeting of a new year, the board swore in its re-elected and newly elected members and voted for Patrick Bravo to continue to serve as board president and Rev. Curtis T. Walker, Sr., as vice president.

Bravo, Bruce Alexander and Lisa Mansfield were all re-elected in November to serve on the board this year along with newly elected member Ginger Baylor. Baylor had served the board before leaving to work for U.S. Rep. Marcia Fudge in 2013.
