Jennings CLC (middle school) has received First Place in the Canton Scholastic Chess Tournament. Jennings students also won first place overall for the tournament.
APS Akron Early College High School also won first place. Overall, a good day after a total of four tournaments. Jennings came in first place in the reserve division at each tournament. (Since the school is the overall winner, Jennings now holds the traveling trophy this year as well!)
Last week, Jennings was in the state tournament, too, and came in second place. Students from Jennings took first place last year in the reserve division of the state tournament.
This year, we saw graduates of Jennings, now at Akron Early College High School wanting to keep up the chess competition. So, they started up at Early College High, and now APS has two chess teams -- essentially -- from Jennings.
Early College also came in first place today.
"It was another awesome day!" That's what Joanne Cook said. Joanne teaches pre-algebra at Jennings.
Kudos to Jennings Principal Charles Jones for his vision for chess at his school.
