Fifth-grade students from I PROMISE School advanced their history skills by visiting Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens for their Essential Experiences field study last week. Students experienced “Akron: City of Opportunity” from the organization’s past by exploring the trades, crafts and careers of 1920s immigrant or migrant workers. They learned how the people managed daily life in their “new” country and strengthened the flourishing city of Akron. Students then applied their knowledge to modern-day Akron opportunities.
The field study is part of Essential Experiences, an initiative that provides every pre-school and elementary student at Akron Public Schools with a meaningful learning experience outside of the classroom. The initiative is a partnership among GAR Foundation, Akron Public Schools, and Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens.
APS thanks all of its partners who help us connect community to the classroom.
