Akron Public Schools has some immensely creative and motivated library techs finding ways to engage our students. During library time, we ask our students to work on their keyboarding skills -- 30 minutes a week.
Tara Davis, at Betty Jane CLC, created a challenge for the students during remote learning.
Any student in grades that 2-5 who averaged 30 minutes of practicing keyboarding over five weeks is entered into a drawing. The top two finishers receive a box of treats ... delivered contact-free, of course. Fifth-grader Issabella landed first place and was excited to open the gift package at home with her family.
Included in the reward box was a home-made T-shirt created by Ms. Davis in her own, at-home Makerspace.
Megan A. Mannion, library media/SEL learning specialist for APS tells us, "We are so thankful for Ms. Davis' creativity and motivation to keep students engaged! I know several other technicians are doing similar things -- always happy to share good news."
