North Teacher Reflects on Series

Charlie Bucket got his golden ticket from a Wonka Bar. Kelly Dine’s came in the mail.

Last winter, while home on break from her job as a science teacher for North High School in Akron, Dine went out to her mailbox, where she found a thin envelope from Little League International.

Dine had applied to be an umpire at the 2019 Little League World Series but, having gone through the college application process with two of her sons, she figured it was a rejection letter.

“Whenever you get a college rejection letter, you just know,” said Dine, a Hudson resident who spoke at Monday’s Hall of Fame Luncheon Club meeting at Tozzi’s on 12th. “Normally when they accept you to college, you get this nice big packet. When you get the thin envelope, you’re like, ‘Ugh.’ So I’m flipping through and I saw the thin envelope and I’m like, ‘Ugh.’” Read more here >>.
