Also nominated as a "Kid of Character" was Jaevyn McKenzie (NIHF STEM Middle School, sixth grade). The Akron Beacon Journal published the nomination from APS for Jaevyn, writing: "(He) consistently adheres to all of our Core Values, especially integrity. His teachers use words like respectful, kind and polite to describe Jaevyn. He is considerate of others' feelings and is always willing to help in the classroom. As a learner, Jaevyn is self-motivated in all academic areas. One of his teachers also added that, before Jaevyn leaves school each day, he is sure to visit each of his teachers and wish them a good evening.
