Akron Parks Week Starts Oct. 3

The City of Akron, in partnership with the Akron Parks Collaborative, is hosting its annual Akron Parks Week to celebrate, improve and utilize Akron's public spaces. This year, the week will include two socially-distanced tree planting events. The week begins Saturday, Oct. 3, and will focus on planting native trees in two neighborhood parks, sponsored by The Davey Tree Expert Company. Volunteer opportunities are:
- Erie Island, Oct. 3, 8-10 a.m. and 10 a.m.-noon (1532 Peckham St.); register here >>
- Joy Park, Oct. 4, 8-10 a.m. and 10 a.m.-noon (825 Fuller St.); register here >>
Volunteers are needed to register for a shift (all groups must have 10 people or less) and must bring their own work gloves, shovel and garden rake. Volunteers without access to those items should email Greg Nyburg at
gnyburg@akronohio.gov, and all volunteers will receive a free Akron Parks Week T-shirt and a sapling for personal planting (first-come, first-served basis). For residents unable to participant in the outdoor planting events, saplings will be available for personal planting while supplies last at Joy Park or Erie Island during the planting times.
