She has been recognized nationally by the American Speech Language and Hearing Association (ASHA), and she is active on the state level representing the interests of our students.

Jane holds dually-conferred Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees from Kent State University. She is currently the most senior speech-language pathologist in Akron Public Schools. During Jane’s tenure, she has held a variety of positions on building- and district-level committees, written grants, conducted in-services for staff, and provided pertinent state-level information to colleagues.

In addition to her busy school SLP responsibilities, Jane completed a time-study analysis for Akron’s SLPs which were shared with the state SLP Supervisory Network. These analyses were then used by Ohio’s ASHA State Education Advocacy Leader (SEAL) to contribute to, and partially inform, the development of ASHA’s Guidelines for School-Based Services document. in 2000, Jane joined OSSPEAC’s Board as SLP-at-Large for two consecutive terms, then chaired the Legislation Committee until 2008. As Legislative Chair, Jane’s testimony before the state Education Committee hearings continued the pursuit of reduced caseload maximums. Currently Jane serves as OSSPEAC’s representative to the relatively-recently re-formed Ohio School Health Services Association. Since 2017, Jane’s SLP perspective has provided input and earned respected recognition from many of the state’s stakeholders who impact mental health services to our students. As the newest member of OSSPEAC’s Governmental Affairs Coalition, efforts to advocate for legislation to benefit our profession formally resume.
