APS thanks Matt Coleman from the Akron Fire Department for his efforts at Harris-Jackson CLC December 21 for Operation Warm - Coats for Kids.

Matt raised money to purchase and donate 180+ coats. Deputy Mayor for Public Safety Charles Brown and Deputy Director of Public Service Chris Ludle joined Matt, teachers, staff and hundreds of students at our newest community learning center.

Akron Fire, EMS and other sponsors help fit our students in brand new winter coats.

The group served ice cream to about 600 folks yesterday and helped students enjoy the bounce houses, fire truck and smoke house. We even had the pleasure of watching as nine Akron Fire Department employees visited classrooms to read to the children.

Our wonderful community partners and volunteers commented on how polite the students were and at how smoothly the  day went. That was thanks, in large part, to  Dean of Students Keziah Steurer  who worked tirelessly to make it all come together.
