Image of SocktoberStudents at Miller South School for Visual and Performing Arts had a challenge this past month. Counselor Vanessa Roberts organized a special drive to raise socks ... socks for Project Rise, Access Battered Women's Shelter and South Street Ministries. Her goal for the students was to donate 1,000 pairs of socks to the three agencies that do so much to help so many in our community.

"Our kids really came through with flying colors," said Roberts. "They went above and beyond our goal."

After spending quite a bit of time counting socks, Roberts tells us the final count for Miller South's Socktober Event was 1,312 pairs of brand new socks. These socks will be distributed today and tomorrow to Project Rise, Access Battered Women's Shelter and South Street Ministries. All of these organizations assist students in the Akron Public Schools and their families. Each organization will receive approximately 400 plus pairs of socks. The students in the photo are the Miller South Student Ambassadors.
