April is Child Abuse Prevention Month

Image of Julie BarnesApril is recognized as Child Abuse Prevention Month, and each year Summit County Children Services (SCCS) takes the lead to raise awareness of child abuse and neglect and support the safety and well-being of children in Summit County. With the outbreak of COVID-19 this past year, we have seen a decrease of calls to our child abuse hotline. At the same time, we know that children and families have experienced increased stress and isolation which are factors that can increase child abuse and neglect. So, now more than ever, increasing awareness is critical.

This year, SCCS will again recognize the month of April as Child Abuse Prevention Month by wearing blue. We hope you will ‘join the movement’ with us and Wear Blue on Wednesday, April 14, to raise awareness and to show support in preventing child abuse and neglect. Wear Blue pictures can be emailed to Shannon.Ede@summitkids.org. We hope to make this Wear Blue campaign a success by posting many pictures of staff, businesses and organizations wearing blue on our social media platforms.

We appreciate everyone's continued dedication and efforts in helping SCCS raise awareness and prevent child abuse and neglect in this community.
