The annual audit process has once again been completed by the Auditor of State of Ohio. While the word “audit” can carry negative connotations with it, the process is necessary and useful. The process gives the district an opportunity to correct any deficiencies in procedures or internal controls and allows us to keep up with current regulations and guidelines. Knowing that our financial information is accurate allows us to focus on the district goals and leads to better decisions being made for students.
With the annual review being completed by the Auditor of State Office, we can be sure that the district’s spending and procedures meet compliance requirements, as well as the auditor’s standards. The resulting audit report is a summary of the audit work performed and serves as an annual report card on the district’s finances, controls, policies and procedures.
We are happy to report that, in addition to the district receiving the highest possible audit rating of an unmodified opinion again, there were no material deficiencies noted in the district’s financial statements, internal controls or compliance requirements.
This assessment demonstrates to taxpayers Akron Public Schools commitment to proper stewardship of the monies entrusted to the district.
