Akron Public Schools Athletic Director Joe Vasallotti gave special recognition at last night's board meeting to Craig Sampsell. Sampsell, who teaches at Case CLC, is also the tennis coach at Firestone CLC, just across the tracks from Case. After 20 years of coaching the girls' team and 17 with the boys' team, Craig is retiring. He'll continue teaching.
"Craig is the tennis pro for Akron. He knows more than anyone I know about this game and the kids who play it," said Vassalotti.
Sampsell’s Firestone girls' teams won 159 dual matches and 18 City Series championships, and his Falcons boys' teams have won 153 dual matches and 16 City Series championships.
