Congratulations to our Buchtel Freshman Class of 2026 who completed their My Future Pathway-Career two-part project. We had 96 freshmen participate in mock interviews in December with our Buchtel College & Career Academy partners, APS staff, and community members.
Two weeks ago, Buchtel freshmen participated in the annual career expo that provided an avenue for freshmen students to explore a variety of career options within their interested pathway choice.
Two hundred fifty guests then attended the Buchtel ninth-grade Pathway Selection & Student Presentation Fair. During this time, students presented projects "science-fair style" to parents, community members and staff. Additionally, families heard from keynote speaker Jim "Basketball" Jones who emphasized the importance of learning about and using the tools needed for personal development and success in life.
The following are a few student responses from the "My Future Pathway-Career" project:
- "I did not want to do this, but I'm so glad I did. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I'm proud of what I did."
- "This project helped me know I was choosing the right pathway. I already knew I wanted to be in Sports Medicine, but I think I know which career I like most."
- "I am so proud of myself. I was so nervous to talk in front of those professionals for my interview, but they said I did great and I had good feedback on my rubric. I guess they couldn't see how scared I was."
- "I was so scared to talk to the professionals before I ever met them. For some reason, I thought they would be mean, but my person was actually really nice. She gave me feedback and encouraged me not to cover my mouth when I talk."
- "I was stressing myself out for nothing. I thought I was doing all of this work and no one was going to come and look at my project, but my family showed up and people I don't know came to see my presentation."
