
Congratulations to East students inducted into the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS). The ceremony was on May 20 in the school auditorium. Parents, AVID students, student ambassadors and student council members attended the ceremony. Walter Noland, campus principal, gave the welcome. Robert Proctor, academy principal, was the keynote speaker. He encouraged students to focus on a future of excellence. The NJHS students led the Dragon Unity Presentation. The Dragon Unity Presentation visually honors the supporters in the students' lives through sand art. Each student gently poured sand into a unity jar. The sand represents the
- NJHS members' unique gifts and talents,
- the support of their loved ones and their sacrifices,
- the opportunities and diversity in the school and community,
- the support and encouragement of the East CLC staff, and
- NJHS members' commitment to making a difference.
Each member received a gift bag with a certificate, a journal and a personal gift. Shawn Perry, the academy principal, gave final remarks at the reception. The reception was held in the school library. Pastries and punch were served. The event was coordinated by the school counselor, Courtney Jones Hunter, and the NJHS Faculty Council. The NJHS faculty members are William Casterlow, Adrienne Kalaitsides, Thacha Koger, Kaitlyn Kramer and Jennifer McKenna.
