Recently, the Ellet Air Rifle Team competed in the first monthly Akron Public Schools JROTC Air Rifle Competition. This was held at Buchtel CLC. The four young women cadets from Ellet CLC faced rigid competition. The other teams included cadets from Garfield, East and Buchtel CLCs.
Ellet CLC cadets Natalie Hundzsa, Taylor Blair, Phoebe Smith and Isabella Lipply shot for the first time in this competition.
Cadet Blair, when asked how she felt during the competition, stated, “I kept an open mind; not only was I preparing myself, I was helping my air-rifle teammates.”
Cadet Blair expressed that she believes in herself and her teammates and that they all gained desirable experience to shoot better in the future.
Cadet Blair further stated that she used to be nervous during air rifle practice as this is her first year shooting air rifle. She also says that air rifle practice and her team have helped her control her breathing while calming and grounding herself.
This ability has helped her excel in her academics and school studies.
Special thanks to JROTC Instructor Joseph P. Grieco. Grieco is a first class petty officer, USN (retired), who is the naval science instructor at Ellet CC.
