Monday, the Akron Public Schools Board of Education recognized the many students who achieved success in the i-Ready Challenge that took place over the holiday break.
English and math were the challenges for 4,000 kindergarten-through eighth-grade students to pursue during their time off.
The discipline needed was 45 minutes per week of reading and math and the passing of two lessons each week. The 136 students who made the leaderboard when school resumed last month were awarded swag bags (bags filled with educational gifts) for their achievement.
Interim Superintendent Mary Outley praised the students, saying, "We were pleased that so many students dedicated educational time during their vacation." She added, "This is a positive learning exercise that drew students from every cluster of schools throughout the district. I'm proud of each of them and pleased to see the board recognizing their work."
