Helen Arnold has the distinction of having been the first black woman to be elected to the Akron School Board some 40 years ago. The school dedicated in her honor, just south and west of downtown, has strong connections to its many families. Last Thursday evening, Principal LaMonica Davis counted 331 participants who attended a Black History Month celebration at the school. Students and families enthusiastically joined in the events of the evening which included a raffle and dinner.
"Adding in our amazing staff and dedicated volunteers gave us a packed house that night," said Principal Davis. "I look forward to our planning more events such as this so we can see our families together, enjoying the company of others in our awesome community."
