Akron Public Schools Leadership Symposium moved to a special place especially close the hearts of young athletes. The Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton hosted this installment of the APS Leadership Symposium with our high school student athletes, coaches and athletic directors.
Forty student athletes and 15 staff members were there representing each of our six traditional high schools that sponsor athletics. Each school's team continued the work from November's and February's meetings at APS. The teams are establishing goals for improving the climate of their respective school community. Yesterday, they participated in workshop activities presented by Dr. Denise Snowden, CEO of "Coach To Lead" - an organization which works with school districts and businesses to develop leaders who enact positive change.
APS Athletic Director Joe Vassalotti tells us the group arrived in the morning via two charter buses, toured the HOF and then worked during two different sessions (separated by a lunch buffet) in the HOF's Gold Jacket Lounge. "Our target now is set," Vassalotti said, "on next steps for making the written goals a reality at each school. "
