More than 50 people attended the evening ceremony in the school auditorium. The attendees included parents, family members and Innes school staff. Innes staff and students greeted guests at the school entrance with warm smiles and helpful directions to the auditorium. Regina Anderson, assistant principal, provided the welcome. Yvonne Culver, director of college access, was the keynote speaker.

During her address, Culver defined the NJHS pillars and gave the students examples of how to reach the pillars. Student inductees played an active role in the event by reading the NJHS pillars and participating in the candle lighting ceremony. Parents and family members were also actively involved in the ceremony. Each family member or parent placed an NJHS key around their student's neck.

Immediately after the ceremony, there was a punch and cupcake reception. The school counselor, Michelle Hartley, and the NJHS council members coordinated the event. The NJHS council members are Ms. Fodor, Mrs. Malarick, Mrs. McClung, Mrs. Minc, Mrs. Skelly and Mrs. Marshall.
