N.J. Akbar, Ph.D., former board president for Akron Public Schools, is resigning from the board and from his job at Kent State University.
He said he will be the national chief of equity for what he told the board is a non-profit social justice organization. He made the resignation announcement at Monday’s board meeting (3/27/23).
He explained that the new job will not permit him to hold public office.
Akbar is an associate vice president for diversity, equity and inclusion for Kent State University. He said his last day with APS will be April 10.
