Eleven Akron Public Schools high school teams entered the state robotics tournament March 12, 2022. Of those, eight advanced out of match play into the tournament brackets. STEM High School Principal Dina Popa tells us, "It was a great showing by all STEM and Firestone CLC teams."
Vex Robotics awards two state champion titles each year, one for individual team skills and one for team bracket competition. This year, STEM High School walked away with both titles. Team 60883D, “Dougie," catapulted to the top of the skills scores posting a winning score of 691, 70 points above the next closest competitor. This score clinched the 2022 state skills title for STEM.
In team bracket play, STEM team 60883D formed an alliance with Brecksville to move through the brackets and claim back-to-back state tournament champion titles (2021 & 2022). Firestone also showed great strength within its five teams with one team finishing as bracket semi-finalists to round out an amazing performance for Akron Public Schools.
Both schools have three teams each that qualify for the VEX World tournament in early May in Dallas, Texas.
