APS scholars along with students from Bedford City Schools, Cleveland Municipal Schools, The University of Akron, The University of Akron Law School, and Kent State and Ohio universities participated in roundtable discussions about materials collected from Ohio senatorial and gubernatorial candidates. From the discussions, questions were crafted for the candidates. The questions will be forwarded to the candidates by Ohio Debate Commission with hopes of responses.

Scholars also watched video clips of presidential debates and participated in conversations facilitated by Dr. Mitchell Mckinney, dean of the Bliss Institute. The examination of the video clips focused on conversations about the historical and current practices of political debates. In addition, scholars had the opportunity to ask questions to media representatives about how decisions are made regarding media coverage of political candidates.

The discussion was facilitated by Dr. Emily Metzgar, a journalism professor at Kent State University. Members of the media panel included: Jim Crutchfield, editor-in-chief, The Marshal Project's First Local News Team in Cleveland; Karen Kasler, bureau chief, Ohio Statehouse News Bureau; Lucia Walinchus, executive director, Eye On Ohio; and Anthony Shoemaker, Ohio bureau chief, Gannett.

APS staff members in attendance had the opportunity to network with individuals from other Ohio school districts, staff from various Ohio Universities, and staff from the Ohio Debate Commission to discuss innovative ways to enhance scholar's voices and involve Akron Public Schools in the democratic process. To conclude the day, scholars toured t
The University of Akron. The tour included visits to the student union, the recreational and wellness center, and residence halls and dorm rooms.

A special thank-you to all who contributed to making this day a success!
