On Friday, Feb. 17, Akron Early College freshmen attended the Youth Empowerment Summit with students from across Summit County at the Shaw JCC Akron. The event was a collaboration with the Summit County Historical Society, Ilene Shapiro County Executive Department of Jobs and Family Services, John Brown Institute, and Lippman Day School.
At the event, scholars participated in the following:
- Round table discussions on the topics of Social Justice, Freedom & Responsibility, Constructing Our Identity
- An engaging Sojourner Truth Project presentation
- Keynote presentation from Romeo Travis
- A question-and-answer period with Romeo Travis
- Lunch and conversation with other students from across Summit County
