Love and Learn Doll Project

The Love and Learn Doll Project serves families and younger children living in local homeless shelters. Volunteers create dolls, quilts, blankets and tote bags and then pair each item with a storybook and an educational activity guide. Along with Project Rise staff, they distribute the items at shelters and meet with families to discuss school readiness.

The purpose of the program is to provide comfort to children who are experiencing homelessness and prepare them for the school year. It also promotes parent-child interaction, which helps enhance developmental learning.

The Love and Learn Doll Project was based off The Learning Doll, a program developed for Cleveland Public Schools. Over the years, the program has grown to involve many members of the Akron community, including several churches that help with sewing, funding and providing storage. Thank you to United Presbyterian Church in Cuyahoga Falls, Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and Firestone Park Baptist Church for their support.
