PACT Program

PACT Program

For more than 10 years, the Performing Arts Can Teach (PACT) program has helped its participants experience art and culture in and around Akron.  PACT provides families and students experiencing homelessness with the opportunity to enjoy plays, musicals and other performing arts programs.

During most performances, students also receive books and study guides related to the production they are seeing. Project Rise tutors serve as facilitators and chaperones leading discussion with students before and after performances.

The program began as collaboration between Project Rise and the Magical Theatre Company of Barberton in 2001. Today, the PACT program has partnerships with Weathervane Playhouse, Akron Civic Theatre, The University of Akron’s EJ Thomas Performing Arts Center, First United Methodist Church, In Jesus’ Name Foundation (or IJN Foundation, Dr. Deborah Price) and The University of Akron School of Dance, Theatre and Art.

The program credits much of its success to funding provided by the Akron Community Foundation.
